DRS e-Counting delivers for second time in Oman National Elections

30th October 2007

Following the successful deployment of DRS technology in 2003, DRS e-Counting solutions were selected, and have once again delivered results efficiently and effectively, in the Oman National Elections.

With all votes being counted across the country within just a few hours of close of polls on Saturday (27th October), Interior Minister, Sayyid Saud bin Ibrahim Al Busaidi, said the elections had been successful and well organised.

DRS was commissioned to supply and deploy 76 of its state of the art PS900 e-Counting scanners to count the votes in 61 count centres across Oman to select representatives for the Omani National Consultative Council, known as the Majlis Al Shura. Utilising its PhotoScribe® platform of technology, the DRS PS900 is an intelligent imaging scanner that validates every ballot paper as it is scanned. The PS900 combines the speed, accuracy and economy of Optical Mark Recognition with the advantages of full or partial ballot images.

This highly complex election required DRS to design and print 400,000 ballot papers in Arabic script containing both the name and full colour photograph of each candidate. Highly skilled engineers from Milton Keynes based DRS flew out to Oman to collaboratively work with local partners, Bahwan IT, and to successfully oversee and deliver this logistically complex e-Counting project.

Employed to deliver accurate and secure results around the world, DRS e-Election solutions have repeatedly proven to bring benefits of speed and reliability to the election process whilst also providing the ability to reduce the vast amount of human resource needed to manually count complex elections, without ever compromising on accuracy.
