DRS steps up commitment to worldwide channel sales

23rd May 2005

Following the UK launch of the PS900 PhotoScribe® Image Mark Reader, data capture specialist DRS has been embarking on a tour of its worldwide distributors to open up International and European channel opportunities. The team at DRS have been visiting a number of countries including China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Mexico and Norway to promote the sophisticated capabilities of the PS900 scanner, and the success of this campaign has generated a great deal of interest.

Harmonation, DRS’ education specialist distributor based in Taipei, Taiwan has already secured two PS900s into the College Entrance Examination Committee (CEEC) to process approximately 800,000 forms for the Taiwan University Entrance Examination. The PS900s will replace their existing CD800 Optical Mark Reader and the CEEC will now be able to process increasing volumes of examination papers much quicker and more effectively than ever before. Another two more sales have been confirmed in Taiwan, one in Mexico as well as 21 in China.

‘We are firmly committed to long term growth of our worldwide markets,’ commented Simon Day, Commercial Director, DRS. ‘The PS900 is a highly sophisticated data capture scanner that can help organisations, government departments and agencies process, record and image data quickly, accurately and securely. Our global network of distributors is a vital element of the DRS sales strategy and we are keen to strengthen relationships and continue to build knowledge in international markets.’

The recently launched PhotoScribe® PS900 scanner represents the latest generation of data capture technology suitable for a wide range of complex and high volume data capture exercises and it is already making waves in the worldwide marketplace with projects including student registration, examination processing and electronic marking as well as complex election and census work.

NOTES FOR EDITORS

The PS900 works by using drop-out imaging techniques to mask background parts of the form and electronically capture the remaining data. Combining OMR and image recognition, the PS900 can detect and record a variety of items on a form including barcodes, photos and other marks that are often used as security features to validate forms. The scanner features unique imaging capabilities that not only recognises the forms and the information contained, but also captures multiple area high quality bitonal and grey-scale images on the fly, which reduces storage and post processing costs and means the relevant data is available immediately.
