DRS technology helps set new standards in Unipath clinical trial data capture
Electronic data capture specialist DRS has been working with one of the worlds leading women’s health diagnostic companies, Unipath to streamline and set new standards in the data capture of external clinical trial data. Using advanced data capture technology, study sites from across Europe and the US simply fax their results to Unipath and the data is automatically imaged, captured and validated (awaiting operator verification) before being exported to a database for analysis.
Unipath has been using DRS technology to collect data for over six years and the Intelligent Character Recognition technology provides a unique and cost-effective solution that it could rely on to collect the clinical trial data quickly. Before moving to an automated solution the vast geographical spread of the trials resulted in the data being batched together and sent weekly which would not only delay analysis but it would also affect the processing of data, the resolution of any data queries, the completion time of the medical studies, and ultimately the timeline of future product releases.
"It is vital to be able to turnaround clinical trial data quickly and effectively whilst maintaining 100% accuracy. The DRS solution will allow us to manage data coming in from multiple studies running simultaneously, both more easily and almost instantaneously." Commented Dr Simon Alaluf, Clinical Evaluations Manager, Unipath Ltd. "We envisage that the DRS system will continue as an integral part of the data collection mechanism for our clinical studies."
The solution provides Unipath with a cost-effective mechanism to increase the speed at which the data is transferred and captured, reducing the need for manual data entry. The package supplied by DRS also includes all software integration, training, hardware support and TELEform software.
The ICR package supplied by DRS is an advanced automated data capture solution designed to electronically capture many styles of information, from machine or hand print through to tick-boxes, signatures and barcodes. It uses Intelligent Character Recognition software to extract, verify, process and record large volumes of information quickly, accurately and securely.
