Supporting duty of care in schools

Schools have the continuing challenging task of improving systems in order to meet the fundamental objective of providing appropriate duty of care to students and parents.  Keeping pupils safe and providing assurances to parents that children are safe and secure whilst at school through effective tracking and monitoring of their whereabouts is vital.

Adopting an e-Registration solution designed to accurately monitor and track pupil attendance and whereabouts, whilst enabling the fast and accurate retrieval and analysis of data, not only provides these assurances, but also helps to inform policy formulation and planning at a local and national level.

DRS support Local Authorities and primary and secondary schools across the country with attendance and lesson monitoring technologies, specifically designed to improve accuracy and reduce the administrative burden associated with this traditionally time-consuming and labour intensive task.  With four decades experience of working within the education sector, our client relationships are based on long term partnerships.  We understand that every school has its own unique needs and requirements and our e-Registration technologies are designed with this in mind.

Thousands of educational institutions around the world are using our traditional OMR technologies to collect class and lesson attendance data, but more and more are now turning to real-time solutions to ensure they reap the benefits that e-Registration and biometrics provide.

Approved e-Registration techniques

The DCSF, Becta and the UK Commissioner’s Office have all approved the use of biometric fingerprint recognition technologies in schools to support and improve efficiency and day to day management and security within the school environment.

Most schools have experienced some issues with truancy, where students register their attendance at school but fail to show up for lessons.  The introduction of e-Registration for each lesson tackles this problem head-on, something which attendance administrators are welcoming.

Adopting this approach enables staff to notify parents and guardians of their child’s absence more quickly, supporting the school’s duty of care and providing the opportunity to improve parental support in the area of student attendance.
