The Tried and Tested DRS e-Counting Solution

The DRS electronic ballot counting solution is tried, tested and is proven to deliver accurate results.  It has been deployed in many large scale, complex election projects around the world and has been subjected to many independent tests.  DRS e-Counting is proven to bring speed, accuracy and reliability to the management and administration of elections.

Integral to e-Counting is the design of the ballot paper, and DRS has extensive experience in this area.  DRS has designed and produced ballot papers to tackle the most complex of election types from multiple contents on a single ballot paper, multiple voting systems, single transferrable votes and even multi-lingual ballot papers with candidate photographs.  We have the experience to advise on the best practice, to achieve the best results.

The DRS e-Counting Process

Following the DRS approach, sophisticated, high speed Image Mark Readers, designed to securely scan ballot papers in real-time are used to count the ballots transparently, accurately and quickly.  Designed and manufactured by DRS, these award winning PhotoScribe® imaging mark readers are integral to our e-Counting solution.

To ensure complete integrity and traceability throughout the count, each ballot paper carries a series of secure, encrypted marks that, when combined, make every single ballot paper unique, secure and safe from fraud and reproduction attempts.

Working in partnership with public authorities in the management of their statutory and non-statutory elections, DRS follows five key stages in the e-Counting process:

  1. ballot box reception
  2. ballot box registration
  3. ballot paper scanning
  4. ballot box verification
  5. ballot paper adjudication

In addition to providing the technology required to enable modernisation of the count process, DRS also provide essential pre-election advice, technical guidance and support and training.
