DRS share benefits of electronic marking at the AEAA Conference in Nairobi

Earlier this month DRS Data Services General Manager for education, Sid Spalding, was one of the key speakers at the 29th conference of the Association for Educational Assessment in Africa (AEAA).  He presented the latest research from DRS and NFER (National Foundation for Educational Research) on increasing the confidence of finding a poor marker early as part of DRS’ e-Marker® electronic marking methodology at the gathering in Nairobi, Kenya.

The AEAA is a non-profit making organisation established to promote co-operation amongst examining and assessment bodies in Africa.  The vision of the organisation is harmonisation of educational assessment on the African continent and the focus of this year’s conference was best practice in education assessment for regional integration.

DRS e-Marker® technology is successfully utilised by the UK's leading examination awarding bodies and provides greater accuracy of marking and quality control.  For examining and assessment bodies in Africa it is potentially a valuable tool to achieve greater consistency.

During his presentation, in addition to improved marking accuracy and automated quality control, Sid Spalding highlighted other tangible benefits of e-Marker®, including segmentation to allow best use of individual market skills and reduction of marker bias as well as greater administration efficiencies such as data management and post examination data analysis.

Post his presentation Sid Spalding commented; “Specialising in examination and assessment processing, electronic marking and student attendance and registration solutions, DRS has almost four decades experience in managing complex educational data capture projects. I am delighted to have the opportunity, on behalf of DRS, to share best practice and offer proven solutions, such as e-Marker® technology to the AEAA to support the valuable work their members do across Africa.”  He continued; “The fact that e-Marker® offers a variety of modular and scalable electronic marking methods is of particular relevance to awarding, assessment and professional bodies across Africa giving them the opportunity to experience specific benefits with real value, long term.”
