Roehampton University leads HE sector with DRS e-Registration pilot

In a first across the Higher Education sector, Roehampton University is set to pilot a biometric e-Registration solution that will dramatically improve its registration and attendance process, ensuring it has clean, instant, accurate and consistent data that monitors student whereabouts.

DRS IntelliReg® is an electronic registration solution, which records the presence, absence and lateness of students and is able to fully integrate with the cashless environment.

The pilot will run for eight weeks and will involve students on Roehampton’s Business and Psychology courses trialling both fingertip biometric and card technology across the Whitelands and Southlands Colleges.  The University will then run focus groups, as well as a survey, to gather feedback on both types of technology.  These findings will be evaluated by Roehampton with a view to rolling out the solution into other areas of the University, as well as linking IntelliReg® to the University’s timetabling and student records software in order to attain a complete e-Registration solution.

Roehampton is one of the newest universities in the UK, having been established in 2004. With IntelliReg®, students use their card, fingertip or a PIN to register.  All readers are in constant communication with the controlling PC, delivering real-time information, necessary for managing registration and attendance accurately and efficiently.  Each registration can determine the whereabouts of students at any given time.  IntelliReg® also has the capability to interface seamlessly with the management information system (MIS) and time tabling module, providing real-time update of data for accurate attendance monitoring whilst saving valuable teaching time.
