DRS wins four-year contract with ABRSM

Education technology provider DRS has won a four-year contract to improve marking standards, with its electronic examination marking solution e-Marker®, for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) – the leading authority on musical assessment with 100,000 students taking their theory of music examinations in over 80 countries.

Electronic marking provides greater accuracy of marking and quality control, improves speed of mark transmission, improves management data and improves post examination data analysis. It streamlines the process for examiners, releasing them from many of the administrative functions of the conventional system and allowing them to concentrate on the key task – accurate and efficient marking. Electronic marking also enables enhanced checking and quality control, which has a direct impact on the accuracy of the marking process.

DRS is working with ABRSM to review their current examinations processes and identify areas where the introduction of e-Marker® could provide efficiency gains, such as the enhancement of their examination papers to enable improved quality in management information.

Eugene O'Donnell, IT director at ABRSM comments: “While the built-in quality assurance aspects of e-Marker® is the main attraction for ABRSM, we are also excited about the far greater visibility and control over the whole marking process made possible by the system.”

DRS e-Marker® offers a variety of modular and scalable electronic marking methods for awarding, assessment and professional bodies. Designed to add value, enable results to be available quicker and improve accuracy and reliability of examination marking, e Marker® harnesses the power of real-time, award winning image capture scanners, specialist bureau services – either in-country or at DRS – and sophisticated software delivered across the internet, to securely capture item-level responses and marks from examiners.
