Global data capture specialist DRS wins Product of the Year at prestigious DM Awards

DRS, the global data capture specialist, is celebrating winning ‘Product of the Year’ at this year’s prestigious DM Awards, as well as being named runner-up for the ‘Public Sector Project of the Year’ and shortlisted in seven other categories. The awards, which aim to reward outstanding products, suppliers and projects in the Document and Content Management industry, were held in London last night.

DRS’ flagship PhotoScribe® PS960 scanner scooped the ‘Product of the Year’ award after winning ‘Hardware Product of the Year’ at last year’s ceremony. The PS960 is used around the world for high speed, high volume data capture projects such as census, examination processing and election counting and can electronically capture up to 10,500 completed forms every hour.

DRS was named runner-up for the ‘Public Sector Project of the Year: Government & Public Services’ for successfully processing and delivering the results of the fifth population census of Sudan. With the last successful national population census dating back more than 20 years, the fifth population census of Sudan was the country's most ambitious and important statistical project ever. To ensure the results were processed accurately, transparently and securely, DRS was contracted by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to supply its world leading census solutions including 12 of its award winning PhotoScribe® scanners and census software, staff training and 11 million specially designed census forms. DRS also travelled to Sudan to support the northern and southern administration teams in managing this highly complex data collection exercise.

Celebrating 40 years in business this year, DRS has earned the reputation of being the global leader in scanning, recognition and processing products and solutions for the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. DRS products and solutions are used across the globe on large-volume, time-critical projects such as the capture and processing of data for large-scale examinations and education related data capture, complex election counts, population censuses, and medical and financial document processing.

DRS’ PhotoScribe® PS960 scanner was shortlisted for a further four awards including ‘High Volume Scanner Product of the Year’ and ‘Hardware Product of the Year’ while DRS’ intelligent document and data capture solution, DocXP®, was shortlisted for ‘Recognition/Data Capture Product of the Year’ for the third year running. DRS was also shortlisted for Company of the Year.

After the ceremony, Tony Lee, managing director at DRS, commented: “With the PS960 being the preferred choice for large scale, real-time and complex data capture exercises around the world, I am delighted to bring this award back to our in-house teams who are continually innovating our range of products and services. Winning this award is a huge achievement for DRS and I extend my thanks and congratulations to the dedicated team that contributed to this success.”
