DRS to Launch Biometric Solution at BETT 2007

DRS Data Services Limited is pleased to announce it will be using BETT 2007 as the platform to launch its biometric solution for access and attendance. DRS IntelliReg is a fingertip recognition system designed to alleviate administration pressures and improve the accuracy of attendance records.

With truancy rates rising to a record high during the 2005-2006 academic year, accurate attendance records have never been more important. The DRS IntelliReg solution offers complex attendance reporting and real-time query abilities to help improve standards within the education system.

With this solution, students simply register in the system by placing a finger in a fingerprint reader. The reader then codes the unique points of each fingerprint and uses an algorithm to convert it into a mathematical template, omitting the need for an actual fingerprint image to be stored. The mathematical template is saved in the Management Information System database and when the student registers their attendance in class, by simply placing the registered fingertip within a special reader in the classroom, the system uses this unique template to recognise them.

This process encourages students to take responsibility and register their own attendance thus saving valuable teaching time.

Demonstrations of the DRS IntelliReg solution will be carried out on stand H20 throughout BETT 2007 (10th-13th January). For more information, contact Katie McBreen, Press Officer on +44(0)1908 423760, or email pressoffice@drs.co.uk
